CLIVE, Iowa - A quick stop for gas and snacks before vacation turned into a $10,000 lottery win for a Johnson County man.

Gordon Dean, 71, of North Liberty, won the big prize on a "Lucky 7 Bonus" scratch ticket he bought at Kum & Go, 2600 Holiday Road in Coralville. It's the same store where he bought a $2,000-winning ticket a few years ago.

"I stopped to get gas for our lawn mower so one of the grandkids can mow our lawn while we're gone," Dean said on Wednesday as he claimed his prize at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office. "Went inside, bought my wife some donuts and myself some cashews, grabbed a scratch ticket and walked out to the car."

Once back at the car, he played the ticket and immediately uncovered a winning symbol. When Dean scratched off the prize amount, both he and his wife were stunned.

"We were both pleasantly surprised, to say the least," said Dean, who took the ticket back inside and verified his win on the store's self-checker.

Dean said he plans to save his winnings for now, and added that the timing of the win made for a great start to their vacation.

Lucky 7 Bonus is a $20 scratch game that features 20 top prizes of $250,000, 76 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 2.88. For more information about this game and the number of prizes still available, visit ialottery.com.
