Steven McFarling Claims Big Prize In InstaPlay Lottery Game

CLIVE, Iowa - A central Iowa man said he plans to bolster his retirement account after winning a $10,000 lottery prize.

Steven McFarling of Urbandale won the big prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Ultimate Winnings" InstaPlay game. He purchased his winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 8701 Douglas Ave. in Urbandale, and claimed his prize Thursday at the lottery's main office in Clive.

The InstaPlay product combines features from instant-scratch and lotto games. InstaPlay tickets are called "scratchless" because they have no security coating that needs to be removed to determine the prize won. And rather than having supplies of tickets printed in advance like those in traditional scratch and pull-tab games, InstaPlay tickets are printed on demand from the lottery terminal.

Since the lottery's start in 1985, its players have won more than $6 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $2.5 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.

Today, lottery proceeds help our state in multiple ways. They help Iowa veterans and their families through the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund. They help the families of Iowa peace officers, firefighters and corrections employees who die in the line of duty. And they provide help for a variety of significant projects through the state General Fund.
