Ames Woman Shocked By $150,000 Lottery Win

Leigh Solis Claims Top Prize In 'Feeling Lucky?' Scratch Game

Leigh Solis

CLIVE, Iowa — An Ames woman who won $150,000 said it took some time for her to come to terms with her big win.

"I saw $150,000, and it was like, 'No, no, there's no way!'" Leigh Solis said on Monday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's main office in Clive. "We scanned it with the app and it came back $150,000. Then we had to scan it with another phone because I didn't believe it. We were yelling and just in shock."

Solis, 45, won the sixth and final top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Feeling Lucky?" scratch game. She and her husband, Arturo, bought a trio of tickets at Maverik, 4506 Lincoln Way in Ames, where they stopped for a pop. All three tickets were winners, but only one brought a feeling of shock.

"I didn't think it was $150,000 at all," Solis said. "$150 — but then all the zeros!"

Solis, the area manager for a restaurant group, said she and her husband plan to put the winnings toward paying off vehicles and cushioning their savings account.

Once the final top prize in a scratch game is claimed, distribution ends and the game is pulled from shelves. For more information about Iowa Lottery scratch games, visit ialottery.com.
