Des Moines Man Wins $250,000 Lottery Prize

CLIVE, Iowa — A Des Moines man has won a $250,000 lottery prize.

Daniel Doyle won the first top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Holiday Gold" scratch game. He purchased his winning ticket at Price Chopper, 1819 Beaver Ave. in Des Moines, and claimed his prize Wednesday at the lottery's main office in Clive.

Holiday Gold is a $20 scratch game that features four top prizes of $250,000 and overall odds of 1 in 2.42.

From now until 9:59 a.m. on Jan. 7, players can enter nonwinning holiday-themed lottery tickets into a second-chance promotion for a chance to win a share of $1 million in cash prizes. For more information, visit www.ialottery.com.

Since the lottery's start in 1985, its players have won more than $6.2 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $2.5 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.

Today, lottery proceeds help our state in multiple ways. They help Iowa veterans and their families through the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund. They help the families of Iowa peace officers, firefighters and corrections employees who die in the line of duty. And they provide help for a variety of significant projects through the state General Fund.
