CLIVE, Iowa — A Des Moines woman said her $10,000 lottery win will help fund an upcoming transition.

“I'm moving in April to Omaha, so this is a blessing,” Kristine Rongey said on Tuesday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's main office in Clive.

Rongey won the big prize playing the Iowa Lottery's “$100,000 Mega Crossword” scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Casey's, 3527 Indianola Ave. in Des Moines.

“I thought I won $100, so I checked it on my phone and it came up I won $10,000,” she said. “You get an adrenaline rush right away and you're kind of nervous.”

Rongey, a retired nurse, said she's grateful for her win as she plans for what's ahead.

“In the grand scheme of things, it's not huge, it's not life-changing, but for somebody like me who is retired, it's certainly life-helping,” she said.

The $100,000 Mega Crossword game is a $10 scratch game that features 46 top prizes of $100,000, 92 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.29. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
