SW Iowa Woman's Luck Turns Around After Winning The Lottery

Susan Eberly Claims $10,000 Top Prize In New 'Lucky Numbers' Scratch Game

Susan Eberly

CLIVE, Iowa – The first of eight top prizes of $10,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's new "Lucky Numbers" scratch game was claimed Friday by a southwest Iowa woman.

Susan Eberly of Clarinda said she really didn't consider herself a lucky person until she won the lottery.

"I just figured I wasn't one of those people," Eberly told lottery employees as she claimed her prize at the lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.

Eberly, 63, said she bought her winning ticket Jan. 23 at Casey's, 318 E. Washington St. in Clarinda. She didn't believe that she'd won right away.

"When I scratched it, I looked at it and went, 'No? Yeah, no!'" she said.

Eberly, who is retired, said she plans to use her winnings to pay bills.

Lucky Numbers is a $2 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on the Iowa Lottery's website, www.ialottery.com.
