Ticket Came Close To Winning It All In Saturday's $130.4 Million Powerball® Drawing

DES MOINES, Iowa – A ticket winning a $1 million prize in Saturday's Powerball drawing was sold at a Marshalltown convenience store.

The $1 million-winning ticket was sold at the Kwik Star, 810 S. Third Ave. in Marshalltown. It matched the first five numbers but missed the Powerball in Saturday's $130.4 million jackpot drawing to win a $200,000 prize. But, the player who purchased the ticket also added the Power Play® option to the winning play, which multiplied the prize to $1 million. It was the only ticket in the country to win that prize Saturday.

Tracy Unker, manager at the Kwik Star where the winning ticket was sold, said word spread quickly about the big prize.

"Nobody's been in to claim it yet, though," he said during a news conference at the store on Monday.

When the Powerball game was redesigned in January, one of the changes in the game was made specifically for the prize you win if your ticket matches the first five numbers and you've added the Power Play. The prize for that play is always $1 million, no matter what the Power Play number is for that drawing.

Terry Rich, CEO of the Iowa Lottery, said Saturday's $1 million winner is evidence that the recent changes in Powerball are delivering what players want: continued big jackpots, but the chance to win lots of other big prizes as well.

"Powerball keeps us all buzzing, and it's that excitement we're so happy to be able to deliver for our players," Rich said. "That's going to be especially true for the lucky winner or winners who bought the $1 million-winning ticket in Marshalltown."

The winning numbers in Saturday's $130.4 million Powerball drawing were: 13-31-41-45-46 and Powerball 21. The Power Play multiplier was 4. No one won Saturday's jackpot, so it increases to an estimated $150 million for Wednesday's drawing.

In addition to the $1 million-winning ticket, two other tickets sold in Iowa came close to winning it all in Saturday's drawing. They each matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win a $10,000 prize. The $10,000-winning tickets were sold at Hy-Vee, 4800 Asbury Rd. in Dubuque; and Kum & Go, 1 N. Locust in Glenwood.

Saturday's $1 million Powerball prize is the second won in Iowa this winter. In late December, a Marion couple won a $1 million Powerball prize with a ticket they purchased in Swisher.
