Moines-Area Family Attraction Offers Savings To Iowa
Powerball® Players; C-Store Chain Also Offers Free Coffee
DES MOINES, Iowa – The third round of money-saving offers in the
"Keep your Powerball ticket handy" campaign is available
starting at 10 p.m. Saturday, with a Des Moines-area hotel and
family resort as the latest featured attraction.
The Adventureland Inn in Altoona is the third of eight featured
attractions in the summer travel initiative from the Iowa
Lottery and Iowa Tourism Office. The idea behind the "Experience
Iowa" project with its "Keep Your Powerball Ticket Handy" slogan
is to encourage people to travel the state, go to Iowa
attractions and businesses and give the entire state a boost in
these tough economic times.
The Adventureland Inn is offering a $20 discount on one night's
lodging to guests as part of the campaign. The Altoona hotel is
located right next to the Adventureland amusement park. The
hotel features two tropical courtyards, three large swimming
pools, playful water features and two spas. It has 187 rooms and
suites, a family-dining restaurant, and free shuttle service to
the amusement park.
Nancy Landess, manager of the Iowa Tourism Office, said the
summer travel initiative is coming at the perfect time for
Iowans who don't want to give up their travel plans but want to
save money in today's trouble economic times.
"It's important that our attractions, our events, our lodging
properties all make that offer," she said. "It's all about
helping people get out around the state, have fun while they're
traveling Iowa this summer and also get some really good deals
while they’re at it."
As news about the travel initiative has spread, other Iowa
events and businesses also have decided to make special,
unadvertised bonus offers to Iowa Powerball players. So,
starting Sunday, players also can visit the lottery's Web site
to find out how they can use their nonwinning Powerball tickets
to receive the Adventureland discount or a free 16-ounce coffee
at U-Stop convenience stores in Council Bluffs, Crescent and
Minden.
To take advantage of the latest offers, Iowa Powerball players
who have a nonwinning ticket from the drawing on Saturday (May
9) can log onto the lottery Web site at www.ialottery.com, print
off a coupon there starting Sunday, attach their nonwinning
ticket and then present the coupon to the participating business
to receive the special deal. This latest round of offers will be
available through Wednesday.
Powerball ticket holders must use one ticket per coupon, or
select which offer they wish to use.
The special offers being made through the Experience Iowa
initiative will change with each Powerball drawing. A new round
of offers will start Thursday, with nonwinning Powerball tickets
from Wednesday's drawing eligible for those discounts. The next
round of offers won't be announced until after Wednesday's
drawing, so Powerball players can check back at the lottery Web
site then to learn more.
Lottery CEO Terry Rich said the "idea behind the project is that
Iowa Powerball players can receive more than the purchase price
of their tickets back in value."
"By working together, we can help drive new or additional
customers to businesses across the entire state," Rich said.
The lottery-tourism project will continue through May and June,
with discounts from other featured attractions to include
Riverboat Twilight, which offers riverboat trips from Le Claire
to Dubuque; King's Pointe Waterpark Resort in Storm Lake; Iowa
Marriott Hotels at special participating locations; Pzazz/FunCity
amusement park in Burlington; the National Mississippi River
Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque; Iowa Speedway in Newton; and Honey
Creek Resort near Lake Rathbun in south-central Iowa. |
