CLIVE, Iowa — A northern Iowa woman's lottery prize of more than $33,000 is keeping the winning streak going at a Forest City retailer.
“It's gotten to be a superstitious place because it seems like they have more winners,” said Margaret “Peg” Kalskett of Leland.
She bought her “Big Money Doubler Progressive InstaPlay” ticket at Kwik Star, 800 U.S. Highway 69 N. in Forest City, and won a prize of $33,924. Kalskett claimed her prize Monday at the lottery's regional office in Mason City.
Kalskett's win is the third big prize to come from that store in the past six months. In March, Terry Stillings of Forest City won a $50,000 prize on a “$50,000 Super Crossword” ticket. Anders Carlson, also of Forest City, started the lucky streak in October, winning a $50,000 Powerball® prize.
Kalskett, 69, said she and her husband are thrilled to be the latest players figuring out what to do with their winnings.
“We just have some bills that have been needing to get paid, so we're adding things up and making sure there's still some left over for fun,” she said.
Big Money Doubler Progressive is a $5 game with a progressive jackpot that starts at $5,000 and increases with every ticket sold statewide until it is won.
InstaPlay games, which range in price from $1 to $30, combine features from instant-scratch and lotto games to give players an option with no numbers to pick, playslips to fill out or wait for a drawing. InstaPlay tickets are known as "scratchless" because they have no security coating that needs to be removed to determine the prize won. The tickets are printed on demand from the lottery terminal.
