Statement From Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn Regarding Class-Action Lawsuit Settlement Announcement

CLIVE, Iowa - Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn issued the following statement Monday regarding the announcement of a settlement agreement in Culler, et al, vs. the Multi-State Lottery Association:

"The work by Iowa officials - including those at the Iowa Lottery - to unravel the Hot Lotto mystery and identify the facts in the Eddie Tipton case was instrumental in arriving at the point where there can be a settlement for affected players.

Though the Iowa Lottery was not a party to this litigation, it is our understanding that once the settlement reached by the Multi-State Lottery Association is approved by the Court, a settlement website will be established. This settlement website will allow impacted players on the dates in question to submit claims online or download claims forms to submit through the mail. Information about the settlement website will be shared by the Iowa Lottery as soon as it is available."

Since the lottery's start in 1985, its players have won more than $5.7 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $2.4 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.

Today, lottery proceeds help our state in multiple ways. They help Iowa veterans and their families through the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund. They help the families of Iowa peace officers, firefighters and corrections employees who die in the line of duty. And they provide help for a variety of significant projects through the state General Fund.
