$50,000-Winning Powerball® Ticket Purchased In Bettendorf Expires Soon
Winner Has Until May 1 To Claim The Prize

CLIVE, Iowa – A $50,000-winning Powerball ticket purchased in Bettendorf is set to expire in about a month. The Iowa Lottery is reminding players to double-check their tickets in the hope that the prize will be claimed in time.
The $50,000 unclaimed prize was won in the drawing on April 30, 2016, with a ticket purchased at Casey's, 3902 State St. in Bettendorf. The ticket came close to winning that night's $314.7 million jackpot, matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win a $50,000 prize. The winning numbers that night were: 3-12-16-32-34 and Powerball 14.
The winner or winners have until the close of business at 4 p.m. on May 1 to claim the prize at a lottery office. The Iowa Lottery has offices in Cedar Rapids, Clive, Council Bluffs, Mason City and Storm Lake.
An even bigger Powerball prize than the one in Bettendorf also remains unclaimed in Iowa and will expire this summer if the winner or winners do not come forward in time. That prize for $2 million was won with a ticket purchased at the Hawkeye Convenience Store, 2330 Wiley Blvd. S.W. in Cedar Rapids, for the Powerball drawing on July 16, 2016. The prize will expire at the close of business on July 17 if it not claimed before then.
The money from unclaimed prizes in Iowa goes into the lottery's prize pools for future games and promotions, so it will be used to pay prizes, just not those prizes that have expired. In fiscal year 2016, more than $1.2 million in lotto prizes expired in Iowa without being claimed.
Players in Iowa have up to 365 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes in Powerball, Mega Millions®, Hot Lotto®, Lucky for Life® and All or Nothing™. Players have up to 90 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes in the Iowa Lottery's Pick 3, Pick 4 and InstaPlay games. If the expiration date falls on a weekend or holiday when the lottery's offices are closed, the winner has until the close of business on the next business day to turn in the ticket.
