CLIVE, Iowa - A Polk County woman has claimed a $30,000 lottery prize.
Vicky Keltner, 61, of Bondurant won the 124th top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Bonus Crossword" scratch game. She and her husband, Charlie, bought the winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 108 Eighth St. SW in Altoona, and took turns scratching it off at home.
The more they scratched, the more words they completed and the more excited they became.
"I had the app on my phone and so I checked it, and it came off, 'Congratulations, you just won $30,000!'" Keltner recalled with a laugh on Tuesday as she claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Clive. "We were both like, 'Oh, my goodness!' We did not know what to do."
Keltner said she and her husband plan to pay a couple bills and save the rest of the winnings.
