CLIVE, Iowa – An Illinois man has claimed a $50,000 Iowa Lottery prize.
Dwayne Willet of Seaton won the seventh of eight top prizes in the lottery's "Power 5s" scratch game.
Willet, 33, was on his way to work the morning of May 18 and stopped for a breakfast sandwich at Kum & Go, 1429 Park Ave. in Muscatine. He saw the scratch tickets and decided to purchase one.
"I was looking through them and just randomly decided to pick that one for some reason," Willet said. "I'm kind of glad I did."
He couldn't believe his eyes when his ticket revealed the top prize. He returned to the store to verify his win on the self-checker there, then went to a second gas station "just to check again and make sure I wasn't dreaming."
Willet drove to the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids to claim his prize the same morning. He and his wife, Ashley, plan to use their winnings on home improvements and paying bills.
Power 5s is a $5 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and the number of prizes still up for grabs in it, can be found on the Iowa Lottery's website, www.ialottery.com.
