CLIVE, Iowa - A Humboldt man was in disbelief after he won a $100,000 lottery prize.
Bruce Johnson, 56, claimed the seventh of eight top prizes available in the Iowa Lottery's "Casino Riches" scratch game. He bought his winning ticket at Kum & Go, 1212 Eighth Ave. N. in Humboldt.
"I've always thought, 'Well, it'd be nice to win $1,000 or $5,000,'" he told officials Sept. 14 as he claimed his prize at the lottery's regional office in Storm Lake. "But when I saw the $100,000, I couldn't believe it."
Johnson, who works at Humboldt Motor Sales, scratched his ticket at home, then returned to the store to verify the big win. He said he plans to put his winnings toward retirement.
"My coworkers this morning were asking me what I'm going to buy," he said. "I'm probably not going to buy anything. I can retire a year earlier now."
Casino Riches is a $10 scratch game. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
