Cedar County Woman Wins $50,000 Lottery Prize

Lawaunda Williams Claims Top Prize in '$50,000 Holiday Super Crossword' Scratch Game

Lawaunda Williams

CLIVE, Iowa — A Cedar County woman has won a $50,000 lottery prize.

Lawaunda Williams of Tipton won the fourth of 12 top prizes in the Iowa Lottery's "$50,000 Holiday Super Crossword" scratch game. She said she was in disbelief even after claiming the prize Nov. 20 at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

"I'm still not believing it," she told lottery officials with a laugh. "It's shocking."

Williams, 41, and her fiancé, Trevor Foster, purchased a pair of scratch tickets at Casey's, 1107 Cedar St. in Tipton.

"We bought two of them and we went home," Williams said. "He scratched his, then handed me the other ticket and said, 'Good luck.' And we had good luck there!"

She said she'd only told close family so far, wanting to make sure the big win wasn't a dream.

"It's definitely a blessing, that's for sure," Williams said. "But we haven't really told anybody because I wanted to make sure it was true."

The $50,000 Holiday Super Crossword is a $5 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on the Iowa Lottery's website, www.ialottery.com.
