New College Graduate Wins $50,000 Lottery Prize

Jonathan Labrador Claims Top Prize in 'Frogger Level II'

Jonathan Labrador

CLIVE, Iowa — A Davenport man closed out his college career by winning a $50,000 lottery prize.

"I actually bought the ticket on the day of my graduation," Jonathan Labrador, 22, told officials on Monday as he claimed his "Frogger Level II" prize at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. "It's just unbelievable. There are no words to describe. It's just like going on a rollercoaster in five seconds."

Labrador, who graduated this month from St. Ambrose University with a mechanical engineering degree, bought his winning ticket at Kwik Shop, 303 W. Locust St. in Davenport. He said that after his family had a graduation dinner at a local restaurant, he and his father stopped at a convenience store for fuel. While they were there, they also decided to buy some lottery scratch tickets.

Labrador, who said he remembered playing a computer version of the game years ago, bought a Frogger ticket – the first he had ever played in that game. He said he scratched the ticket that night at the hotel with his parents, who had traveled to Davenport from Puerto Rico for his graduation weekend at St. Ambrose.

"They were super excited and really happy they could leave me well after going back," he said.

Labrador won the sixth of 10 top prizes available in the game and called it "a perfect way to jump in." He said that his lottery winnings will definitely help with his student loans.

Frogger Level II is a $5 scratch game that features three ways to win and overall odds of 1 in 3.5. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
