Visit With Granddaughter Pays Off For Council Bluffs Woman

Lori Kulczewski Claims $40,000 Top Prize In 'Joker's Jackpot 5X' Scratch Game

CLIVE, Iowa – A visit to see her granddaughter last weekend paid off for a Council Bluffs woman as she won a big lottery prize.

Lori Kulczewski claimed the fifth of eight top prizes of $40,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's "Joker's Jackpot 5X" scratch game.

Kulczewski, 57, said she and her granddaughter stopped at Casey's, 205 Brown St. in Oakland on Friday night and she bought a Joker's Jackpot 5X ticket.

She said she scratched off her ticket shortly thereafter, but needed to double-check her work before she believed that she'd won.

"I wasn't for sure," Kulczewski told lottery employees Monday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs. "I was really questioning myself because I didn't have my glasses on and I thought, 'Boy, I've never seen $40,000 on a ticket before.' As I pulled the ticket farther away from me I'm like, 'Oh, it can't be!'"

But it was; Kulczewski's ticket really did win one of the game's $40,000 top prizes.

Kulczewski, who works at a convenience store in Council Bluffs, said she plans to use her winnings to pay bills and save some for a newer pickup truck.>

Joker's Jackpot 5X is a $5 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on the Iowa Lottery's website,
