CLIVE, Iowa - A Council Bluffs man said he did a double-take after scratching off a $21,000 lottery prize.

"I had to scan it with my phone: I scanned the ticket and it said, 'Congratulations, you've won $21,000!'" Emil Bertelsen said on Friday as he claim his prize at lottery headquarters in Clive. "To win $21,000 on a $2 ticket? It's pretty awesome!"

Bertelsen, 75, won the fourth top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Triple 7s" scratch game. He purchased a handful of scratch tickets at Hy-Vee, 2323 W. Broadway in Council Bluffs. Multiple tickets were winners, but none bigger than the Triple 7s ticket.

"We called our daughters right away and told them and they said, 'Are you sure now?'" he said with a laugh. "I said, 'Yeah, we scanned it so we know it was a winner.'"

Bertelsen said he and his wife plan to save the winnings.
