CLIVE, Iowa — A Nebraska woman has won $29,500 in Iowa Lottery prizes using set of meaningful numbers.
"The numbers I played were my great-grandmother's, the year she was born," Cheryl Singleton said on Wednesday as she claimed her Pick 4 prizes at lottery headquarters in Clive. "I was really surprised to see it come out."
For Tuesday's evening drawing, Singleton, of Valley, Neb., purchased a $3 straight play, where a prize can be won by matching the four winning numbers in a Pick 4 drawing only in the exact order drawn. She also purchased a $3 straight/box play and a $3 box play, where prizes can be won by matching the winning numbers in any order. On all three of her plays, she matched the numbers in the exact order drawn: 1-9-2-2.
She won $18,000 on her straight play, $9,750 on her straight/box play and $1,500 on her box play for total winnings of $29,250. She purchased her tickets at Casey's, 1650 Locust St. in Carter Lake.
Singleton, who won $36,000 in prizes in a Pick 4 drawing last fall, said her latest win was just as exciting.
"It was butterflies in my stomach," she said. "I'm just extremely happy."
Singleton said she plans to save her winnings.
Pick 4, which has been offered in Iowa since September 2003, features odds of just 1 in 10,000 of winning the game's $30,000 top prize. It offers a variety of play options and wagers from 50 cents to $5 for the chance to match a four-digit number combination from 0000 to 9999.
