CLIVE, Iowa — After growing for more than three months, the Powerball® jackpot that captured headlines nationwide has finally been won. Two Iowa tickets came just one number away from winning a share of Saturday’s huge prize.
The jackpot was claimed by two tickets purchased in Missouri and Texas. The $1.787 billion annuity prize ($820.6 million lump-sum option) is the second-largest in U.S. history.
"Iowans felt the thrill of the recent jackpot run, and we’re grateful that they chose to play responsibly," said Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn. "Each ticket purchased not only gives players a chance at significant prizes, but also helps fund programs that make Iowa a better place to live, work and play."
Prizes Won in Iowa; 2 Tickets That Came So Close
Iowa Lottery players won a total of 78,980 prizes in Saturday’s Powerball drawing, ranging from $4 up to $50,000.
Two Iowa tickets were just one number away from winning a share of the jackpot, each matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win a $50,000 prize. Those tickets were purchased at Circle K, 421 N. Main St. in Burlington, and Maverik (formerly Kum & Go), 2600 Holiday Road in Coralville.
A third Iowa ticket also won a $50,000 prize in Saturday’s Powerball Double Play drawing, a separate drawing for players who added the $1 Double Play option to their Powerball ticket purchase. That ticket was purchased at Jimmy D’s Food and Spirits, 113 E. Main St. in Hawkeye.
Lottery players in Iowa won a total of $560,634 in prizes in Saturday’s Powerball drawing. There are nine prize levels in the game, ranging from $4 up to the jackpot. The Iowa Lottery reminds its players to check their tickets carefully for any prizes they may have won.
The Winning Numbers And Sales
The winning numbers in Saturday’s Powerball drawing were: 11-23-44-61-62 and Powerball 17. The Power Play multiplier number was 2.
Iowa Lottery players bought more than $4.76 million in Powerball tickets for Saturday’s drawing, including $2.4 million in tickets on Saturday alone.
A Record-Breaking Jackpot
Saturday’s jackpot was the 42nd drawing since the jackpot was last won in May, setting a record for the longest jackpot run in the 33-year history of the game. It came close to setting a record for the largest-ever jackpot prize — just shy of the record, a $2.04 billion jackpot won in November 2022 in California.
Easy Picks vs. Your Own Numbers
The vast majority of tickets purchased in Powerball are easy-pick plays, meaning that the lottery terminal assigns the numbers printed on the ticket. More than 91 percent of the Iowa plays for Saturday’s drawing were easy picks.
