Boone Woman Wins $100,000 Valentine's Day Lottery Prize

Cynthia Holmes Claims Top Prize In New 'Casino Riches' Scratch Game

Cynthia Holmes

CLIVE, Iowa – Cynthia Holmes of Boone received a Casino Riches scratch ticket as a Valentine's Day present Wednesday from her husband, Don.

"My husband gave me a gift of a scratch off and I'm like, 'Oh, that's really expensive,'" joked Holmes. "I scratch it off. I won $100,000!"

"I [saw] the dice. I knew she was a winner," explained Don. "I thought it would just be $100 but it turned out to be $100,000."

Holmes, 54, said she didn't believe she'd really won, until she came Thursday to lottery headquarters in Clive and had her winning ticket scanned.

"[The machine] went, 'Woo hoo!' And I'm like - my hands started shaking and like butterflies in my stomach," said Holmes, who works at Walmart. "It is still sinking in."

Holmes claimed the second of eight top prizes of $100,000 available in the Iowa Lottery's new "Casino Riches" scratch game. Don purchased the winning ticket at Casey's, 114 Mamie Eisenhower Ave. in Boone.

"I can pay off my car. I can pay off my house now," she said.

Casino Riches is a $10 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on the Iowa Lottery's website, www.ialottery.com.
