CLIVE, Iowa — Someone who bought a Powerball® ticket at a western Iowa convenience store won a $1 million prize the game's drawing on Saturday night.
The winning ticket was purchased at Kimmes Denison Country Store, 1108 Fourth Ave. S. in Denison. It matched the first five numbers but missed the Powerball to win a $1 million prize.
Saturday's winning numbers were: 28-37-42-50-53 and Powerball 19. The Power Play® multiplier number was 2.
The Denison ticket was the one of four in the country to win a $1 million prize in Saturday's drawing. The other winning tickets were purchased in California, Massachusetts and Maryland.
No one matched all six numbers to win the jackpot, so the grand prize climbs to an estimated $63 million annuity ($30 million lump-sum option) for the game's next drawing on Monday.
Kimmes Denison Country Store will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Iowa Lottery for selling the $1 million-winning ticket.
Prizes of this size must be claimed at the Iowa Lottery's main office in Clive. The lottery's offices are open Monday through Friday, and appointments are strongly encouraged for those claims. To make an appointment or contact the lottery with questions, winners are welcome to call the lottery at 515-725-7900 or email to wmaster@ialottery.com.
Powerball prizes won in Iowa must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. The lottery reminds players to double-check their tickets.
Players in $2 Powerball choose their first five numbers from a pool of 69, and another number – called the Powerball – from a separate pool of 26. The Power Play option is available for an extra $1 per play.
Since getting its start in April 1992 in 15 states with jackpots that started at a guaranteed $2 million, Powerball has grown into one of the world's biggest and most recognizable lottery games. Today Powerball is played by 48 lotteries across the country with drawings at 9:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
