CLIVE, Iowa — A Mega Millions® ticket purchased at a central Iowa convenience store won a $3 million prize on Tuesday, the first big win in Iowa since the game's revamp in April.
The winning ticket was purchased at Kwik Star, 1200 Chatham Ave. in Norwalk, and matched the first five numbers in Tuesday night's drawing to win the $3 million prize. It was just one number away from claiming the jackpot, missing only the Mega Ball.
The win comes as the Mega Millions jackpot continues to climb, now standing at an estimated $965 million for Friday's drawing. It's the game's largest jackpot since December 2024.
Tuesday's winning numbers were 10-13-40-42-46 and Mega Ball 1. The Norwalk ticket was just one of three in the country to win a prize of $3 million or more in that drawing. A ticket purchased in New York also won $3 million, while a ticket purchased in Arizona won $5 million.
Players in the $5 Mega Millions game choose their first five numbers from a pool of 70, and another number — called the Mega Ball — from a separate pool of 24. The game features a built-in multiplier for each play that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times.
Kwik Star will receive a $3,000 bonus from the Iowa Lottery for selling the $3 million-winning ticket.
Prizes of this size must be claimed at the Iowa Lottery's main office in Clive. The lottery's offices are open Monday through Friday, and appointments are strongly encouraged. To make an appointment or contact the lottery with questions, winners are welcome to call the lottery at 515-725-7900 or email wmaster@ialottery.com.
Mega Millions prizes won in Iowa must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. The lottery reminds players to check their tickets carefully. A big win could be waiting!
