CLIVE, Iowa — After growing for more than three months, the Powerball® jackpot that captured headlines nationwide has finally been won. The jackpot was claimed by a ticket purchased in Arkansas. The $1.817 billion annuity prize ($834.9 million lump-sum option) is the second-largest in U.S. history. “Iowans were right there for the excitement of this big jackpot run, and we’re grateful they chose to play responsibly,” said Iowa Lottery CEO Matt Strawn. “Every ticket purchased offers a chance at life-changing prizes while also supporting programs that benefit communities across our state.&rdquo.
Prizes Won in Iowa
Iowa Lottery players won a total of 55,684 prizes totaling $321,341 Wednesday’s Powerball drawing. There are nine prize levels in the game, ranging from $4 up to the jackpot. The Iowa Lottery reminds its players to check their tickets carefully for any prizes they may have won. The winning numbers in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing were: 4-25-31-52-59 and Powerball 19. The Power Play® multiplier number was 2.
Iowa Sales For Wednesday’s Drawing
Iowa Lottery players bought nearly $2.24 million in Powerball tickets for last night’s drawing, including $1.21 million in tickets on Wednesday alone. But the average Powerball purchase in Iowa for Wednesday’s drawing remained around $6, or about three plays per ticket. Lottery officials were pleased to see that many Iowans joined in the fun while keeping their play at a responsible level.
Back-To-Back Big Jackpots
This marks only the second time in Powerball history that the game has produced back-to-back jackpots exceeding $1 billion. The other occurrence was in 2023, when a $1.08 billion jackpot was won in July, followed by a $1.765 billion jackpot won in October. Wednesday’s jackpot was the 47th drawing since the jackpot was last won in September, setting a record for the longest jackpot run in the 33-year history of the game.
