*Iowa Powerball and Mega Millions tickets must be purchased on or after December 6, 2024.
How To Play
It's easy. Pick five numbers from 1 to 69. Pick a separate Powerball number from 1 to 26. The more numbers you match in a drawing, the more you win. If you match all six winning numbers,
you win the jackpot!
Choose your own numbers or request an easy pick for the lottery terminal or self-service kiosk to pick the numbers for you. Select the multi-draw box to buy tickets for up to 10 consecutive drawings at a time.
Powerball drawings are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Tickets can be purchased until 8:59 p.m. on the evening of the drawing.
Powerball prizes won in Iowa must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing in which they were won.
Power Play Option
You can add the Power Play option to your Powerball ticket for the chance to multiply most prizes by up to 10 times.
For an extra $1 for the Power Play, you could increase your prize amount (except the jackpot and Match 5 prize) by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times
(10X multiplier is used only when the jackpot is $150 million or less).
Prize Payouts & Odds including Power Play (PP) Option**
Prize Payouts & Odds for Powerball Double Play
The
Double Play feature gives you the chance to play – and win – with the same set of numbers in two drawings rather than just one. For an extra $1 per play, the numbers on your ticket are eligible
to win in the regular Powerball drawing and a separate Double Play drawing with a top cash prize of $10 million.
You could win a prize in both drawings on the same night.
The Double Play drawing is held after every Powerball drawing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Players can add both the Power Play and Double Play options to their tickets, in which case, a Powerball play would cost $4. While Power Play multiplies Powerball winnings at all prize
levels except the jackpot, it does not apply to Double Play winnings.
Cash Option vs. Annuity Option
When a player wins the Powerball jackpot, they can choose to receive the prize in annuity payments over time or take a lump-sum payment. A player has 60 days from the date they claim their
prize in Iowa to choose the cash or annuity option.
If the player selects the cash option, they will receive a single payment equal to the amount available in the jackpot prize pool from the sale of tickets in the game. If the player chooses
the annuity option, the prize will be paid in 30 payments over 29 years. The annual payment will increase by 5 percent to accommodate for factors such as inflation. If the cost to purchase
the annuity is less than $250,000, the lottery may elect to pay the prize as "cash."
