CLIVE, Iowa — A northeast Iowa woman said that playing a lottery ticket on a break at work ruined her lunch – in a good way.
"It was disbelief, actually, but very exciting," Tasha Davies said on Friday as she claimed her $10,000 prize at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office. "I was sick to my stomach and couldn't finish my lunch."
Davies, 56, of Jesup, won the 53rd prize of $10,000 in the Iowa Lottery's "$100,000 Mega Crossword" scratch game. She bought her ticket at Kwik Star, 841 South St. in Jesup, on her way into work.
Davies scratched the ticket at lunchtime and verified her win with the Iowa Lottery mobile app. Then she slid the ticket into her lunch bag and didn't tell anyone until that night at home when she showed the winning ticket to her husband.
"He didn't believe me," Davies said with a laugh. "He had to verify like I was looking at it wrong."
Davies said she plans to save her winnings.
