CLIVE, Iowa — An Evansdale woman said her late-night $300,000 lottery win left her tossing and turning until morning.
"I was pretty shocked and stunned," Diane Oltmann said Thursday as she claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Clive. "I tried to sleep, but no."
Oltmann won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Ruby Red Crossword" scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Station Mart 2, 1119 River Forest Road in Evansdale.
Despite her fitful night of sleep, Oltmann, 64, was thrilled when she realized what she could do with all that money.
"I just bought a house 18 months ago, so I'm guessing I'd better pay it off," she said.
Beyond paying off her mortgage, Oltmann said she is taking her time to figure out what to do with the remainder of her winnings.
Ruby Red Crossword is a $30 scratch game that features 16 top prizes of $300,000, 47 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 2.29. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
