First Top Prize In 'PAC-MAN' Scratch Game Won In Warren County

CLIVE, Iowa - A man driving through Iowa is the first person to win a $50,000 top prize in the lottery's "PAC-MAN" scratch game.
Dustin Reese of Owatonna, Minn., said he and two co-workers were driving home from a work trip in Kansas City on Friday. They decided to stop for gas at Kum & Go, 1453 Highway G76 in New Virginia.
"I was looking at the lottery display and I saw that the Iowa Lottery is running a PAC-MAN game. And me being a child of the '80s goes, 'PAC-MAN, that's cool! Why don't you give me a couple of those things?'" Reese said.
He scratched his tickets once they got back on the road and uncovered his big prize. Reese said his friend could tell he was in disbelief, so they stopped at another Kum & Go at the next exit to verify the win.
"The kid behind the counter scanned it, turned beat white and called his manager over," Reese said.
With the top prize win confirmed, Reese and his co-workers continued north on Interstate 35. Their next stop was Mason City, where Reese claimed his prize at the lottery's regional office on Friday afternoon.
Reese said his winnings will likely go toward a kitchen remodel and his kids' college funds.
"It's still processing," Reese said of his big win. "It's just sheer luck and anybody can do it!"
Based on the classic video game, PAC-MAN is a $5 scratch game that features a unique play style. It offers prizes from $5 to $50,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.46.
From now until 9:59 a.m. on April 28, 2025, players can enter nonwinning PAC-MAN for a chance to win a share of more than $300,000 in cash prizes. The grand prize is a PAC-MAN arcade prize package and $25,000 cash. For more information about this promotion, visit ialottery.com.
