CLIVE, Iowa - A Waterloo man has won the first top prize of $17,777 in the Iowa Lottery's "Super 7s" scratch game.
"We're both just flabbergasted, we can't believe it," said Virginia Cutsforth.
Her husband, David, purchased the winning ticket at Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh, 2700 University Ave. in Waterloo. The couple claimed the prize Thursday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Virginia Cutsforth said they plan to use their winnings to purchase a new furnace and air conditioner, and will donate some to their church.
"The church means a lot to us, and we have a building debt. So it'll help them out a little bit," Cutsforth said.
She said this big lottery win is among the most exciting events in their 55 years of marriage.
"Oh, I can't stop laughing," Cutsforth said. "We both did not sleep last night."
