No Sleep for Central Iowa Woman After $500,000 Lottery Win

Christi Longstaff Claims Top Prize In '500X' Scratch Game

CLIVE, Iowa — A central Iowa woman said sleep was hard to come by after she scratched off a $500,000 lottery prize.

“I waited until about 11:30 at night to scratch it, so that was a big shock,” said Christi Longstaff, who claimed her prize Tuesday on her 65th birthday at the lottery's main office in Clive. “I didn't think it was a winner. I kept scanning it and scanning it and of course I didn't sleep that night, so yeah, it was pretty exciting.”

Longstaff of West Des Moines won the sixth top prize in the Iowa Lottery's “500X” scratch game. She purchased her winning ticket at Maverik, 330 S. Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, and scratched it at home that night.

“I saw it said $500,000 so then I got my phone out,” she said. “I scanned it probably 10 times. It was just unreal. I still didn't believe it, and I've probably scanned it 20 times since then.”

After claiming her prize, Longstaff said she plans to use her winnings to buy a new car, share with family and save for the future.

500X is a $50 scratch game that features 12 top prizes of $500,000, 39 prizes of $25,000 and overall odds of 1 in 4.33. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
