CLIVE, Iowa — A Greene County woman said she is excited to go car shopping after a $30,000 lottery win.
"I'm not sure if it's a car (or) truck," Brenda Kennedy said on Monday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's main office in Clive. "I guess whatever sparks my mind, but it has to be Chevy!"
Kennedy, of Grand Junction, won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "$30,000 Crossword" scratch game. She purchased her winning ticket at Casey's, 1131 Market St. in Gowrie, and scratched it off at a friend's house.
In the game, players try to complete words in a puzzle with a given set of letters. The more words completed, the larger the prize.
"I said, 'I've got seven words — $100! Nope, I've got eight words, $300!'" Kennedy recalled with a laugh. "I said, 'Nope! $3,000!' And I'm like, 'Nope! $30,000!'"
She handed the ticket to her friend, who double-checked each word and confirmed the big win.
"It was like I had to pinch myself. I had to really pinch myself to think, 'This is real!'" Kennedy said. "This has never happened before."
