Western Iowa Man Wins More Than $150,000 in Powerball® Prizes

Randy Schraeder Claims Prizes Won in June 6 Drawing

CLIVE, Iowa — A western Iowa man has won a pair of prizes in last week's Powerball drawings, with one being much larger than the other.

On one of his plays, Randy Schraeder of Denison won $7. On the other, he won $150,000.

Schraeder's $150,000 prize came by matching four of five white balls and the Powerball in the Oct. 14 drawing. His initial $50,000 prize was tripled because he opted for the $1 Power Play® option, which multiples non-jackpot prize amounts by up to 10 times.

His $7 prize came by matching the Double Play Powerball in that night's Double Play drawing. Double Play is an optional $1 add-on feature that gives players a second chance to win with their Powerball numbers in a separate drawing, held immediately after the regular Powerball drawing.

Schraeder purchased his winning ticket at Kimmes Denison Country Store, 1108 Fourth Ave. S. in Dension, and claimed his prize Oct. 15 at the lottery's Storm Lake regional office.

Players in $2 Powerball choose their first five numbers from a pool of 69, and another number – called the Powerball – from a separate pool of 26. The Power Play option is available for an extra $1 per play.

Since getting its start in April 1992 in 15 states with jackpots that started at a guaranteed $2 million, Powerball has grown into one of the world's biggest and most recognizable lottery games. Today Powerball is played by 49 lotteries with drawings at 9:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
