Des Moines Man Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize

Jared Frost Claims Top Prize In 'When It's Gold Outside' Game

CLIVE, Iowa — A Des Moines man who won a $100,000 lottery prize said it was difficult to convince family members he actually won.

"First thing I'm thinking is, 'Gosh, who do I call first?'" Jared Frost recalled with a laugh on Monday as he claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Clive. "So I called my wife and she's like, 'No! You did not!'

"I called my dad and he goes, 'You're lying through your teeth! It's one of those joke ones! You didn't win!'"

Frost, 40, won the third top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "When It's Gold Outside" scratch game. He bought four tickets at Git N Go, 5736 Franklin Ave. in Des Moines, where he stopped to redeem a prize on a different ticket.

"I was just joking to myself. I'm like, 'Well, let's just sit down, scratch these off and see if I won $100,000,'" Frost said. "Sure enough, I hit $100,000."

Frost, a painter, said that once he sent a picture of his ticket to his family members, they began to believe him. He and his wife, Lisa, plan to save the winnings for now, but are eyeing a possible vacation next spring.

"We got married a little over a year ago and we didn't have a honeymoon, so we're thinking about taking a little trip after the dust settles," he said.
