Pella Man Wins $10,000 Lottery Prize

Matthew Rus Claims Big Prize in 'Lucky Numbers Game Book'

Matthew Rus

CLIVE, Iowa — A Pella man said he couldn't believe his luck after he scratched off a $10,000 lottery prize.

"I'm still a little shocked," Matthew Rus told officials on Thursday as he claimed his prize at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Clive. "It's overwhelming."

Rus, 34, won the 10th prize of $10,000 in the "Lucky Numbers Game Book" scratch game, a $20 scratch game that features six pages of games.

He purchased his winning ticket at Git N Go, 209 E. Oskaloosa St. in Pella, opting to buy another ticket in the game after having won $60 in it earlier.

He took the ticket home and scratched it later that night after finishing a workout.

"I got to the last page of the book and was like, 'I need to get to bed,' so I scratched the bar code, scanned it and that's when I saw that I had won $10,000," he said.

Rus, who said he plans to use part of his winnings to buy a new washer and dryer, said the most exciting part of his win will be seeing himself listed among the big winners on the lottery display at retailers around the state.

"I always stop in a gas station, and I'll always see those people, and it's like $10,000, $10,000, $50,000," he said. "But for me to actually see my face on that, that's going to be the best part."

Lucky Numbers Game Book a $20 scratch game. It features six pages of games, 15 top prizes of $100,000, 15 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 2.51. For For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
