Waterloo Man Gathers Friends for $100,000 Lottery Prize Reveal

Travis Green Claims Top Prize On SCRABBLE Crossword Scratch Game

Travis Green

CLIVE, Iowa — A Waterloo man knew he had a $100,000 top prize win in the bag. So before Travis Green revealed his final word in the SCRABBLE Crossword scratch game, he gathered his friends.

"I'm like, 'Hey man, check this out! I'm about to win $100,000!'" Green, 37, recalled telling his buddies.

Sure enough, Green scratched off the final letter to complete another word on his ticket and won the top prize.

"Ten words for $100,000!" he said.

Green bought his winning ticket at Neighborhood Mart, 2100 Lafayette St. in Waterloo, and claimed his prize Friday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Green is still considering how to use his prize money, but no matter what he decides, the thrill of winning has already been memorable.

"Oh, it was awesome!" Green said. "I had my friends there and everything!"

SCRABBLE Crossword, a $10 scratch game, is based on the classic board game. It offers prizes from $10 to $100,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.20. The game is licensed by Scientific Games, LLC.
