Jake Rogers Claims Top Prize in 'In the Money' Scratch Game

CLIVE, Iowa — A Central Iowa man's $50,000 lottery prize came as a welcome surprise, five months after he and his fiancée welcomed their first child.

"Trying to find formula for our daughter is insane," said Jake Rogers of Altoona. "Now we've got something to give us a cushion."

Rogers, 30, works as a tow truck driver. He picked up his winning "In the Money" scratch ticket between calls at Kwik Star, 5145 NE 14th St. in Des Moines.

He said he had to scan his ticket three times before he believed he won the game's top prize.

"I called my boss and I was like, 'Hey, after I get done with this call I'm going to run an errand,'" Rogers said. "I was like, 'I just won $50,000 on a scratch-off ticket.' And he goes, 'Okay, go there now!'"

Rogers took his boss's advice and claimed his prize Friday morning at lottery headquarters in Clive.

In the Money is a $5 scratch game with top prizes of $50,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.85. For more information, visit www.ialottery.com.
