Northeast Iowa Man Wins $30,000 Lottery Prize

James Bruns Claims Top Prize In ELF InstaPlay Game

CLIVE, Iowa — A northeast Iowa man has won a $30,000 lottery prize.

James Bruns of Janesville won a top prize in the ELF InstaPlay game from the Iowa Lottery and licensed by Scientific Games, LLC and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences. He purchased his winning ticket at Fraternal Order of Eagles, 2125 W. Lone Tree Road in Cedar Falls, and claimed his prize Tuesday at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office.

Based on the classic 2003 holiday movie, ELF is a $5 InstaPlay game that offers prizes from $5 to $30,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.54.

InstaPlay games, which range in price from $1 to $30, combine features from instant-scratch and lotto games to give players an option with no numbers to pick, playslips to fill out or wait for a drawing. InstaPlay tickets are known as "scratchless" because they have no security coating that needs to be removed to determine the prize won. The tickets are printed on demand from the lottery terminal.
