CLIVE, Iowa — A Central Iowa man failed to bag a pheasant this weekend, but he did win a $100,000 lottery prize along the way.
Matt Watznauer, 22, of Granger, won the first top prize in the new "Snowfall" scratch game.
Watznauer and a couple of friends were headed out to go pheasant hunting when they stopped for drinks and scratch tickets at Casey's, 404 Locust St. in Lohrville.
He scratched his ticket while riding in his friend's pickup truck and couldn't believe his eyes. But Watznauer used the Iowa Lottery mobile app and confirmed his big win. He claimed his prize on Monday at lottery headquarters in Clive.
Watznauer, who works for a lawn care company, said he plans to make a down payment on a home and save some of his winnings.
Snowfall is a $10 scratch game with five remaining top prizes of $100,000. Overall odds of winning are 1 in 2.86. From now until 9:59 a.m. on Jan. 8, 2025, players can enter nonwinning Snowfall scratch tickets into a holiday promotion for a chance to win $1.1 million in cash prizes.
