CLIVE, Iowa — A Central Iowa woman's Christmas stocking this week contained a $150,000-winning lottery ticket.
Taylor Caffrey of Grimes won a top prize in the "Money Gift" scratch game. Caffrey, 25, claimed her prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Clive.
The winning ticket was a Christmas gift from her mother, who purchased it at Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh, 9150 SE University Ave. in West Des Moines.
Caffrey said scratch tickets are a Christmas tradition in her family, but no one has ever won quite like this before. She said she plans to pay down debt from her college loans and hopefully purchase a home.
There are now two remaining top prizes of $150,000 in Money Gift, a $10 scratch game with overall odds of winning of 1 in 2.83.
Money Gift is one of nine scratch and InstaPlay games that are part of the Iowa Lottery's "Cash Prizes are Coming to Town" Play It Again® holiday promotion. From now until 9:59 a.m. on Jan. 8, members of the lottery's VIP Club can enter nonwinning holiday tickets for a chance at winning a share of more than $1 million in cash prizes.
