CLIVE, Iowa — A Coralville man said he was eager to finally hold a big novelty check from the lottery after he won a $50,000 prize.
"I've been looking at those pictures of people for a long time," Michael Jones said, referring to Iowa Lottery winners. "It's kind of funny, I'm one of those people now!"
He bought his winning "In the Money" scratch game at Hy-Vee, 3285 Crosspark Road in Coralville. He claimed his top prize Monday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Jones, 57, said he is still finalizing what to do with his winnings. He and his wife could travel, or they may buy new windows for their home. No matter what they decide, Jones said his big win was an incredible surprise.
"They say money doesn't bring happiness. But unexpected money? I sure feel pretty happy today!" he said.
Jones claimed the fourth of eight top prizes for In the Money, which is a $5 scratch game with overall odds of 1 in 3.85. For more information, visit www.ialottery.com.
