CLIVE, Iowa — An Osceola man is the second person to win a $30,000 top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Word Games" scratch game.
"Apparently I'm having an amazing day!" Chase Hill said as he claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Clive.
Hill, 27, works overnight, power-washing inside a local manufacturing facility. He stopped by Casey's, 1706 Jeffreys Drive in Osceola, to buy scratch tickets early Thursday morning after his shift.
He took the tickets home and scanned them with the Iowa Lottery mobile app. Hill said he was stunned when the app alerted him to his $30,000 prize.
"I scanned it four more times, then took it to Casey's. The lady at the counter asked me if I was lying to her," Hill said.
The employee scanned Hill's ticket and confirmed his big win. He said he didn't completely believe it until receiving his check at lottery headquarters.
"Not until I got in the building and they told me it was true," Hill said.
He plans to use his winnings to buy a new car and pay down debt.
Hill is the second person to claim a top prize from Word Games, which debuted Jan. 3. Kelly Ruch of Vail won $30,000 on Jan. 10 with a ticket purchased at Drees Oil, 1257 W. U.S. Highway 30 in Carroll.
There are now six top prizes remaining in Word Games, which is a $3 scratch game with overall odds of 1 in 3.81. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
