CLIVE, Iowa — A central Iowa woman said she used FaceTime to call her husband and tell him she'd won $100,000.
"He had the biggest smile on his face, close to the same smile I saw the day we got married," Reyna Serna-Garcia said of her husband, Salvador. "He was like, 'You're kidding! This is not true!' Big old grin on his face."
Serna-Garcia, 25, of Ankeny, won the second top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "Triple Red 777s" scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at the Filling Station, 2400 University Blvd. in Ames, where she stopped for breakfast on the way to work.
She scratched the ticket in the parking lot outside her office and didn't believe her luck.
"I scan it in my app, and I'm like, 'You're kidding! This is – what?!'" Serna-Garcia recalled on Wednesday as she claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Clive. "I'm just shaking. It's just an adrenaline rush. Very overwhelming. Speechless, clueless, mindless, but in a great way."
Serna-Garcia, a recruiter for a construction company, said she and her husband plan to use the winnings to pay off her car, retire debt and take a trip to celebrate their one-year anniversary in May.
