CLIVE, Iowa - A northern Iowa woman thought she came up empty on her "$50,000 Super Crossword" scratch ticket, but she gave it a second look and uncovered a top prize.
"I scratched it and didn't think I won anything because I missed a letter, didn't scratch it off," said Terry Stillings of Forest City. "So I scratched it off and it was an 'S' and almost every word I had, had an 'S' in it. I couldn't believe it!"
She purchased her winning ticket at Kwik Star, 800 Hwy. 69 North in Forest City, and claimed her prize Friday at the lottery's regional office in Mason City.
Stillings, 65, has worked at the Winnebago Industries plant in Forest City for 41 years. She makes window treatments for the company's motorhomes. Stillings plans to retire in January and said she will save her winnings to make her retirement more comfortable.
Stillings is the eighth person to claim a top prize in the $50,000 Super Crossword game since the start of the year. Other winners include:
- Travis Butler of Rockford
- Jason Elliott of Dakota Dunes, SD
