CLIVE, Iowa — A self-described "PAC-MAN master" is one of 10 people to win a $15,000 prize in the first entry period of the Iowa Lottery's "PAC-MAN Second Chance" promotion.
Tommy Baltierra of Mason City said he was shocked to receive an email telling him he had won in a promotion featuring a game he loves.
"I'm like, 'No! Really?'" he said. "When I was younger, this was my favorite game of all because I would just shove tons and tons of quarters into the PAC-MAN game."
Baltierra said he is such a big fan of PAC-MAN, he owns a book about the play patterns, which helped him master the game.
"You're a PAC-master if you get past the fifth key level. I'm a PAC-master," he explained. "It's kind of ironic that I won something like this on a PAC-Man scratcher!"
He entered the promotion using a nonwinning "PAC-MAN" scratch ticket, which he purchased at Northside Liquor, 1303 N. Federal Ave. in Mason City. He claimed his prize Wednesday at the lottery's regional office in Mason City.
Baltierra said he plans to purchase a new TV and pay off some bills.
Nine other people won a $15,000 prize in the first entry period of the promotion. They include:

The second entry period of the "PAC-MAN Second Chance" promotion is now underway. Members of the Iowa Lottery's free VIP Club can enter using nonwinning PAC-MAN scratch tickets through 9:59 a.m. on April 28.
On April 29, the lottery will draw the names of ten more $15,000 prize winners, along with the name of the grand prize winner. The grand prize package includes $25,000 cash, PAC-MAN's Pixel Bash Cabaret standing arcade, a PAC-MAN-themed barstool, a PAC-MAN-themed carpet rug, and a swag bag with a PAC-MAN t-shirt and hat.
