CLIVE, Iowa — A store in Carroll County has produced two big lottery winners in as many days.
The winning tickets were purchased at Casey's, 351 Sixth St. in Manning, and were both claimed at the lottery's Storm Lake office.
On Monday, Xenia Valladares of Deloit claimed a $100,000 top prize she won on a “$100,000 Mega Crossword” scratch ticket. She is the 33rd person to claim a top prize in the game, and 13 top prizes remain unclaimed.
On Tuesday, Judy Ambrose of Dunlap claimed a $25,000 prize she won on a “Mega Bucks” scratch ticket. Ambrose won at that game's second prize level.
A similar situation occurred less than a month ago at another Casey's in the eastern Iowa town of Wyoming. Two people who purchased scratch tickets at the store both won prizes of $30,000 and claimed them on the same day.
Back-to-back wins like these are purely coincidental. Winning tickets are randomly distributed, and not even the lottery knows when and where the next big prize will be won.
The $100,000 Mega Crossword game is a $10 scratch game that features 46 top prizes of $100,000, 92 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.29.
Mega Bucks is a $50 scratch game that features 13 top prizes of $500,000, 12 prizes of $25,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.09.
