CLIVE, Iowa - A Decorah man's $50,000 lottery prize will pay for a home improvement project that one member of the family in particular will really enjoy.
"A fence in our backyard for our dog so she can run around and be more free," said Brett Sersland.
While his Rottweiler mix named Reese's will benefit the most from the fence, Sersland is also looking forward to fixing up his car thanks to his big win.
He bought his "Joker's Wild" scratch ticket at Kwik Star, 101 Rossville Road in Waukon. Sersland, who is the first person to win a $50,000 top prize in the game, claimed his prize Friday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Sersland, 33, said he couldn't believe he had won so much money at first, so he did some online research.
"I wanted to see what a big winner ticket would look like. I looked at Joker's Wild on there and it was surreal to actually have it in my hand and see it," he said.
Joker's Wild is a $5 scratch game that features 8 top prizes of $50,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.60. For more information about this game and the number of prizes still available, visit ialottery.com.
