$30,000 Lottery Win Leads to Sleepless Night For Davenport Woman

Carole Sammon Claims Top Prize in 'Bonus Crossword' Scratch Game

Carole Sammon

CLIVE, Iowa — A $30,000 lottery win led to a sleepless night for a Davenport woman.

Carole Sammon, 64, claimed the 104th of 114 top prizes available in the Iowa Lottery's "Bonus Crossword" scratch game.

"I couldn't hardly sleep last night," she told officials Friday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's Cedar Rapids regional office.

After dinner with her brothers, Sammon, a Quad Cities hotel worker, said they stopped at Kwik Star, 301 W. Kimberly Road in Davenport, where she purchased a handful of scratch tickets. She said that as she scratched the winning ticket, she lost track of the conversation with one brother as she uncovered word after word.

"I was busy scratching and wasn't even paying attention to what he was saying because I kept getting more and more words," she said. "I kept counting them over and over and there were 10."

Sammon said she plans to use her winnings to pay off her Jeep.

Bonus Crossword is a $3 scratch game with overall odds of 1 in 3.55. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
